Tysha Roughton Receives the 2026 eMINTS Innovative Educator Award Honor

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage R-9 School District is proud to announce that Tysha Roughton, the district's Technology Integration Specialist and an eMINTS Affiliate Trainer, has been named the recipient of the 2026 eMINTS Innovative Educator Award, a national honor recognizing outstanding contributions to innovative teaching and learning.

With more than 20 years in education, Roughton has dedicated her career to supporting educators and empowering students through inquiry-based instruction, meaningful technology integration, and strong professional relationships.

Reflecting on her journey with eMINTS, Roughton said the program transformed the way she viewed teaching.

"When I went through the eMINTS Comprehensive program, I didn't realize the in-depth professional development it offered beyond technology," she said. "It was about your whole classroom—building community, using inquiry, and helping students become the owners of their own learning. eMINTS definitely transforms teachers' mindsets."

Throughout her career, Roughton has become a trusted coach and mentor for educators across Carthage R-9. Her colleagues describe her as a transformational leader who creates supportive environments where teachers feel encouraged to learn, grow, and embrace new instructional strategies.

"She has created an environment where teachers are encouraged to take risks and learn through hands-on experience," said Kendace Bien, technology integration coach for Carthage R-9.

Roughton's leadership reaches every corner of the district through professional development, instructional coaching, and innovative initiatives that help educators thoughtfully integrate technology into their classrooms. She has also played a key role in developing resources and training to support the responsible use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

"Through her leadership, educators grow more confident, students become more engaged, and innovation becomes embedded in the culture," said Catherine Steverson, Carthage R-9 Director of Information Technology.

"Tysha's expertise in technology and the eMINTS program has had a big impact on our district." said Dr. Luke Boyer, Carthage R-9 School District Superintendent. "She empowers educators to think differently, embrace innovation, and create engaging learning experiences that benefit students every day. This national recognition is a well-deserved reflection of the difference she makes in Carthage and beyond."

The Carthage R-9 School District congratulates Tysha on this outstanding national achievement and thanks her for the leadership, innovation, and dedication she brings to students and staff each day.
